Innovation in Paraná: Government presents advances and partnerships to strengthen ecosystem

Actions presented in the Teias da Inovação program seek to promote innovation environments to leverage regional and national development

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) held, last Thursday (19), another edition of the Web of Innovation program – which brings together entrepreneurs, researchers, professors and students. The theme addressed was “Promoting innovation environments to leverage regional and national development”.

The event took place at the Science and Technology Park of Biosciences (Biopark), in Toledo, in the west of Paraná. During the meeting, representatives of the State Government reinforced the advances in innovation ecosystems in Paraná.

The initiative, which was supported by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), highlighted the importance of innovation-promoting environments to stimulate the potential of companies and institutions to foster innovative entrepreneurship.

Throughout the program, in different panels, the Legal Framework for Science, Technology and Innovation of Paraná was highlighted, being pointed out as one of the main Brazilian government strategies to boost research and development activities.

According to the mapping carried out by the Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises of the State of Paraná (Sebrae/PR), currently, the State has 1,956 startups, and records annual growth of around 36.4%. The expectation is that thousands of other emerging companies will be formalized in the coming years, most of them technology-based.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Paulo Alvim, recognized Paraná's performance and signaled the expansion of federal support to strengthen regional innovation systems (SRIs) throughout the state.

Relating economic development to social and sustainability aspects, Alvim emphasized the need to promote job opportunities and the potential to generate wealth.

Aldo Nelson Bona, superintendent of Science, Technology and Higher Education, presented different actions undertaken by the Government of Paraná, articulated with the productive segments of the academic and business environment.

Among the various initiatives, Bona highlighted the Program to Stimulate Actions for University, Business, Government and Society Integration, called the Innovation Agency for Sustainable Regional Development (Ageuni), currently being physically structured at each state university; and the Market-Focused Intellectual Property Program (Prime), which promotes the pre-acceleration of scientific and technological research projects, developed in public and private higher education institutions in Paraná.

Next steps

The forecast is that in the following months, the MCTI will allocate around R$ 300 million to technology parks and R$ 100 million to innovation centers, in addition to digital fabrication laboratories, the so-called fablabs. . Once disbursed, these resources should strengthen several innovation-promoting environments throughout Brazil.
